iBooks Textbooks are exclusively for iBookstore, Apple’s own format

Meanwhile iBooks Author should have been installed on many Macs and aspiring authors should arrive no later than when exporting to Apple’s terms of use in contact: The application may only be created in the iBookstore to be sold.

Actually, it was expected, since Apple is a hardware manufacturer: Apple’s software is used to in order to sell hardware. This is especially true for an application such as iBooks Author, which is distributed free of charge. For the terms, conditions are even relatively generous, because who wants to distribute books free of charge, can do this and the title should of course be sold in other eBookstore, just not in the iBooks format. However, Apple will not provide software to create for the competition. Currently, however, does not support the other iBooks Reader format.

iBooks are basically in the ePub format, but use ePub 3 with some extensions. ePub 3 is currently supported by only a few eBook readers, even those who decided to publish a book dummy text and uses the Apple templates without interactive widgets to be reckoned with smears in the presentation. The free iBooks are not protected by DRM or encrypted, it would quickly give viewers, as well as in ePub 3 builds on Apple’s variant (X) HTML. Anyone who wishes to remain compatible with other viewers should also export a PDF.

For those that need authoring software, which are designed to work with various platforms, must wait to see what will respond Adobe or other software manufacturers to Apple. The only relevant alternative for textbook publishers who want to create interactive books is Amazon with the KF8 format (Kindle Fire 8). KF8 also uses in HTML5, but is not identical with ePub 3.

Shazam Launches New App Focused On Lyric Play: Shazam Player

iTunes is great and everything, but it’s still just a standard music player. The most exciting feature of the whole program is Genius, at least in my opinion, and even that can be off from time to time. But Shazam wants you to ingest your music a bit differently from here on out, and has launched the Shazam Player app to give users a better chance to leverage its new feature, Lyric Play.

Lyric Play is already available in the premium version of Shazam, Shazam Encore, and allows users to see lyrics playing in time with the music, as the song is being discovered. This technology is clearly nothing short of impressive, but the 20 seconds spent tagging a song isn’t really the ideal platform for this feature to be shown off.

That said, the Shazam Player app lets you get your Lyric Play on throughout the entirety of songs. However, there will be a small fee. The app itself is free, but unlimited Lyric Play functionality requires either a monthly ($.99) or yearly ($5.99) subscription. But there are plenty of other features worth trying out, even if Lyric Play isn’t your thing.

For one, most of the same core functionality found in the Shazam apps is still available here, save for Shazaming of course. Users will be able to share their music via Facebook and Twitter, check out the Vevo music video on YouTube, and have access to touring information for the artists of their choice.

Once the app is downloaded, music from within the user’s iTunes library is automatically indexed within the app, at which point the user can filter by artist, album, or track. All your iTunes playlists will make the migration, too. Users can also limit selection down to only those songs with Lyric Play support (Shazam doesn’t have every song covered just yet).

The Shazam Player app gives users the option to build playlists on the go, along with some cool good/bad buttons for an existing queue. Let’s say you’re listening to Michael Jackson’s Greatest Hits, but realize that the song Man In The Mirror makes you way too emotional. You need a break from that song. Shazam Player lets you add it to the “Bad List” with one tap of a button, and it’ll stop playing in any of your queues until you bring it back over to the good side. In the same way, Shazam Player lets you mark songs for the good list, which will then get more plays.

Shazam is available here for download.

Apple’s Santa TV spot deemed best ad of holiday season

Santa has come and gone on his sleigh, and Apple has profited along the way. A survey from Ace Metrix, a TV ad analysis firm, has revealed that Apple’s Santa Siri commercial beat out 34 other Santa-themed spots to win the crown of most effective ad for the 2011 holiday season.

Apple’s commercial, featuring Santa and the iPhone 4S’s Siri assistant, scored a 652 out of a possible 950 points in Ace Metrix’s survey, topping competitors like Pillsbury, Coca-Cola, and Nintendo.

If predications are to be believed, Apple will sell an incredible amount of iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads this holiday season, breaking previous records. Santa may need to consider moving his base of operations to Cupertino, California.

The next Siri-Hack: How the iPhone will be key to the car

It is almost unbelievable, but a hacker has actually managed to manipulate the Siri so that it complete a car, open, start and stop.
Using a proxy server for voice control Siri, the programmed scripts as plug-ins run make and thus allows virtually make any imaginable function under the Apple voice control Siri runs, it creates a hacker to replace a car key with Siri. “Siri checked my car,” says proudly the YouTube video of the hacker.
